I want to know who decided that the way to measure plastic storage containers was in gallons or quarts. Do people normally visualize storing things in terms of liquids? Don’t get me wrong, I love storage boxes. I have a ton of them in various sizes at home. So if I tell you that I need a 1.5 gallon box, does that really tell you anything? How about 5.4 quarts? Any better? If I said a shoebox sized one you might have a clearer picture of what I’m looking for. I have never measured the amount of liquid that I can put in a storage box. In fact, I have never stored any liquid in a storage box. Tupperware doesn't count.
Weird.

A Day Off
After working a really, really long week, I took a much needed day off from both work and home chores on Saturday. It was a lovely spring day and somehow I convinced Greg to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn. We took the dogs, who got lots of attention, as always. The tulips were in beautiful color and there were about a zillion photographers out there take tulip pictures. I doubt if mine came out with any quality like the pros, but I enjoy them.
So here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure:
Here's my attempt to take a professsional shot:

Me and Carmen & Sophie in the flowers. It seemed to be the thing to do.

The guts of a tulip.

Rows and rows of mixed tulips - my favorites!

Greg & the girls.

They had lots of old fashioned tractors on display that were pretty neat.

I liked this one hearty flower that had poked its little face out.

Can you believe they have to tell you not to step on the flowers or to pick them? They did. And I saw people do both.

What could be cuter than a whippet in a shoe? Carmen didn't want to get in.

Sophie was more cooperative.

So that was our day off. It was really, really nice, let me tell you! Now, back to work. I've got two budget meetings this week. Lovely, lovely comp time!

What Does One Trillion Dollars Look Like?
Greg sent me this and I though it was pretty cool. I found it at this site
All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...
A billion dollars...
A hundred billion dollars...
Eight hundred billion dollars...
One TRILLION dollars...
What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.
We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.
You ready for this?
It's pretty surprising.
Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars...

Notice those pallets are double stacked.
...and remember those are $100 bills.
So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.
Kind of puts things in perspective, huh?

Long Time No Blog
I have been ignoring my blog. There, I admitted it. It's all because I found this stupid game called Zuma on Facebook and am totally addicted to it. So what have I been up to, you ask? 126837...oh you didn't mean my high score, you meant in my life. Got it.
Um, let's see. Greg sliced his thumb open and had to have 4 stitches. That sucked and still sucks. He goes to get the stitches out tomorrow.
Work is busy. We are putting the final touches on the budget for next year. Budget meetings start on Thursday, so don't expect to see much of me on here for the rest of the month. This year I'll be doing the minutes and getting everything ready for the meetings. I'm really not looking forward to it, but the comp time will be nice. Just the thought of it makes me tired.
We cleaned out the trailer, finally. Went through a bunch of crap in the office. Got our tax refunds. Spent our tax refunds. Went to a gold prospecting and treasure hunting show in Salem. Took some pictures of spring but haven't downloaded them.
I really can't think of much else to tell you.
See, you all need to believe me when I tell you that my life is boring.
