Pupp posted this on her site today, thus saving me from having to write a boring post. Pupp is Iron Man, which is so cool because she has a song about her and everything. Oooh, better go get it from You Tube.

Don't know why but I just love this song. I don't really even like Black Sabbath, but there is something about this song that makes me like it.

I can't think of a good song about Spiderman, so we'll have to just steal Pupp's song until I think of something. You'll notice that my description says "a bit geeky" but I can't figure out how to get the stupid info from the "Just cut and paste!" part of the website to look right on my blog.

Oh, look. I found one!

Did you notice how far off I was from being Wonder Woman? I wonder what I have to do to get to be her.

Remember This One?

Greg was playing the 80s station off of VH1 tonight and this song came up. I forgot how much I liked it, so I thought you all needed to be reminded of the fun.

I miss the 80s. I admit it.

Hula Hula

So Greg & I went to the Hawaiian Festival at Esther Short Park in Vancouver on Saturday. There were all kinds of booths, a zillion people and a lot of big Samoan security guys. There were also hula dancers, Hawaiian shaved ice (yummy), pulled pork, Hawaiian singers and people handing out leis. One enterprising lei-giver was putting leis on all the dogs. I took a few pictures to share with you all.

Of course, my girls are the cutest of them all.

But this little pug caught my eye.

And these little Italian Greyhounds were too cute not to take a picture of. They didn't want to pose with Carmen & Sophie though.

This guy was showing off his style.

I also got a free 5 minute chair massage that was terrific. Greg has this new chiroprator who's wife is Hawaiian and part of the festival and told him all about it. It was pretty cool.

We didn't stay long, but we had fun anyway. And it was Greg's idea! Wow!

Wordle

http://wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/92355/Whippetrun

This is my blog in Wordle.

But click the link above for some coolness. Deb did this on her blog and it was sooo cool. I had to copy. All of the rest of you (ahem, Pupp), feel free to do the same.

How cool is that?

P.S. Now someone stole my idea and made a letterbox clue out of it. Isn't that a terrific idea? I be a spoiler and tell you who, though! Ha ha!

My Day In Numbers

5 - the time my alarm went off this morning. Yes, that's a.m.

11 - the number of pounds I've lost since I started my weight loss campaign. My doctor was most impressed today!

3.99 - the price I paid for a gallon of regular unleaded gas today. Woo hooo! I never thought I'd be happy about paying $3.99/gallon for gas.

2 - the number of books on hold I had at the library.

19 - the number of items I actually checked out at the library. I let myself browse, which is always dangerous. Some of those are CDs though. I found the cast recording for The Pirate Queen which has been on my "to get" list for AGES.

10,569,657,432 - the number of small children at the library when I was there. Eeek! It was an invasion! I now know what it is like to be tall. Since the gas prices have gotten so high I've seen a surge of kids at the library when I go at lunch time. That place was crawling with them!

6,957 - the number of miles since my last oil change. Oops.

1 - the number of letterboxes I looked for today.

0 - the number of letterboxes I found today. Okay, that's not exactly true. I found the letterBOX. There was just nothing in it.

1 - the number of snakes that slithered by while I was looking for the letterbox.

72 - the number of inches that snake was long. Okay, maybe not that many. But he was at LEAST a foot and a half long. Black with a yellow stripe. No matter what you people say, there is NO WAY he was more scared of me than I was of him.

7 - the number of the decibels of my scream upon seeing the above snake.

5 - the number of minutes it took me to talk myself into going back to the rock where the letterbox was (okay, actually wasn't) after the snake slithered by.

20 - The number of minutes I spent looking for Cleo when I got home. I finally found her on the roof of the house outside. How did this happen you ask? No idea. I think the cat can apparate.

Carmen & Sophie Go to the Holistic Vet

You know how Carmen & Sophie have been having that tummy trouble for the past few months? Well, I finally took them in to the homeopathic vet last week. They went to see Dr. Donna Starita. I took BC & Bastet to see her a year or so before they died and I believe she really helped them.

I can't find my sheet that I took all my notes on at the moment, but basically Dr. S said that whippets are very sensitive dogs and they are picking up on negative energy in their environment (wonder where that is coming from). The stress that they are feeling is effecting their gut which is why they aren't healing with conventional treatment (antibiotics). She gave the girls a bunch of meds to take to heal, soothe, and improve their guts.

They also got a new diet that they aren't totally thrilled about yet. They can have eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, barley, and sweet potato for the next week or so. They love the egg and cottage cheese, but aren't too thrilled with the barley or sweet potato. I've found that they will pretty much eat it if I mix the egg in with it.

I can't say I see a lot of improvement yet. I need to call tomorrow and make sure we are doing everything okay because we had a couple of piles of diarrhea with barley in it in the kitchen this morning (mmm, sounds yummy!). I think it might have been Sophie, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, stay tuned for more information on the inner workings of my dogs. Do I lead an exciting life or what?

Bucket List

My friend Maiden posted her bucket list on her blog the other day and asked her readers to post what was on theirs. A bucket list is from the movie "The Bucket List." For those that haven't seen it (including me, because I didn't want to watch a depressing movie), the basic premise is that these two men are dying and have only 6 months to live. They each create this list of things to do before they "kick the bucket" and then live it out. Kinda like the "Live Like You Were Dying" song by Tim McGraw. Yes, Deb. It's a COUNTRY MUSIC song. I know how much you love that! Oh, look. Here's the video...

Anyway, with all the people in my life that have died in the past few months and my 20th high school reunion right around the corner I'm more aware of my mortality than ever. Throw in Greg's health problems, my inability to get and stay organized, let alone keep up with my house and desk work, and you've got one 38-year-old that is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants out of life.

So being the type that can't just come up with these kind of things on my own, I went out to Google blogs and checked up on what other people put on their list. Just a piece of advice...don't do this. You will realize that all the stuff you thought might be pretty cool to do before you died that you were going to put on your list after you got good ideas off of everyone else's was actually total and complete crap.

So then I realized that I can't even get my daily to do list done. What am I doing coming up with another list of thing that I probably won't cross off? Then I realized that was dumb and just went ahead and made the list. I'm sure I'll add to it as life goes on, but here is my Bucket List (in no particular order of importance).

1. Learn to fence.
2. Visit all 50 states, D.C. and all US territories.
3. Visit all the US National Parks.
4. See a favorite musical in New York on Broadway.
5. See a favorite musical in London on the West End.
6. Take horseback-riding lessons.
7. Scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
8. Visit Europe and see whatever tickles my fancy. Museums, the Vatican, churches, idyllic picnics in the countryside of Spain...whatever it may be.
9. Take one whole summer off from work and just enjoy it like I did when I was a kid.

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll add more later. So let's hear it...what is on your Bucket List?

The Craziness Continues

Sheesh. I don't know where the days have gone. Let me catch you up.

On July 3rd Greg & I went to yet another funeral (if you are keeping track this makes 3 funerals I've gone to in less than two months), this one for his friend Tim's dad. Tim & Greg went to high school together and Greg practically lived at Tim's house during that time. Tim's parents were like second parents to him. So that was hard.

Back on my June 29th post I told you that my grandmother was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. At that time her doctor suspected that she would have another 2-3 months to live. My grandmother chose not to have any surgery, chemo or anything and just wanted to be kept comfortable and to die at home when the time came. The doctor set her up with hospice care so that a nurse could come out and check on her and they would provide her with the equipment she needed and all that.

She was doing okay up until Saturday the 4th. Greg & I went over to see her on Saturday and she got up to see us and spent time talking with us. She got tired pretty quickly, but was bright and cheery. Even though Roger & Lorraine were supposed to come on Sunday, I had planned to spend the day at home catching up on the mountain of laundry I had. Mom called me on Sunday and said that Mama wasn't doing well and the hospice people thought she might have "minutes to hours" to live. Of course we jumped in the car and headed over. She was totally out of it, almost in a coma state. We kept her as comfortable as we could with morphine and another medicine to help keep the fluid from building up.

The whole family (mom, dad, Roger, Lorraine, Greg & I) and some close friends spent the next two days sitting with her. She would open her eyes occasionally, but there was really no one home. I don't know what you call the state she was in, but she was totally non-responsive. We made sure someone was with her all the time and played music for her and talked to her. The hospice chaplain came and talked to us and did some other (kinda weird) stuff. He was nice enough but a bit out there.

Tuesday she was back with us and lucid off and on during the day. She spoke to all of us and called us by name and most of the time could tell us if she was in pain or uncomfortable. Roger & Lorraine got to say goodbye to her before they left.

The next two days were repeats of Monday. She was unresponsive and struggling to breathe. My mom called me here at home around 4:00 on Friday morning and said that Mama died at 3:55 that morning.

I'm just stunned at how quickly this all happened. I was expecting to have all summer to see her and talk to her and two weeks after she was diagnosed she's gone. After the hospice nurse told us she had hours to live we tried to spend as much time with her as possible and also to give my parents a break since they were there 24-hours a day. It was hard having them say she just had hours to live and then for her to prove them wrong by living another 4 days.

So it's been an exhausting week. I'm sad that she's gone but at the same time can't help being relieved that she's not suffering any longer.

This is kind of a dumb post, sorry. I'm having trouble writing this for some reason. Anyway, that's what I've been doing. Tomorrow I will go back to work and try to get back on track.

Rest in peace, Mama. We love you and will miss you.

Happy 4th of July!

Or as I like to say around my house on the 4th, "Welcome to Sarajevo!" There are fireworks going off all over the place tonight. I have a really bad headache so I'm getting ready to go to bed here in a bit. I thought I'd check my email and look in on my blog. I'm listening to Avenue Q. Not very 4th of July-y is it? I was watching the ultimate 4th of July movie "Independance Day" a bit ago (it's been on all day on one of the cable chanels). What says thanks for our freedom better than beating the snot out of some aliens?

Carmen, Sophie, and Cleo are snoozing up here while Zinger is downstairs in the closet. He's freaking out a bit about all the noise. Greg is over drinking beer with our new neighbors and shooting the bull, but my head is hurting too much to be sociable. I'm going to finish importing this last CD to my iTunes and go to bed.

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
