We did a bad thing on Saturday. We got new cell phones. We’ve been with T-mobile for about 5 years and haven’t been happy with their service coverage. I couldn’t get service out at Jeff & Ramona’s in Estacada, couldn’t get service at some parts of the beach (where other people could), and half the time we couldn’t even get service in our own house. Since we are toying with the idea of doing away with our land lines, we decided the first thing we needed to do was have a phone service we could actually use from our house. So we went shopping. At first we were just kind of looking to look. Pretty soon we got sucked in. So we switched to Verizon, which seems to have the best coverage around here, and both got new phones. Greg & I have always gone with the cheap-o phone, you know, the least expensive one you can get. This time we upgraded a little bit. We ended up getting our phones at Costco, and after rebates and everything I think we’ll pay about $40 for these two phones. They are so awesome. We both got an LG VX5200 (http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/lg/vx5200.html) The phones sound great, and Greg said when I called him today that he couldn’t tell if I was on a cell or a land line. It’s so nice.
I don’t even know everything this phone can do. The book for it is an inch thick and it came with instructions on CD, too. It is so danged cool. And it has a camera! How wild is that. Okay, I know I said I’d never buy a phone that did all that fluffy stuff and that I just wanted to make calls with my phone, and I still feel that way, but it is kind of cool to have a phone with a camera.
I took a couple of pictures with it, just to test it out, and the pictures turned out terrible. I was so disappointed until I realized that I still had the nerd guard on the cover of the phone and the camera was taking pictures through that. Der!
