I’ve been saying over and over on this blog that I have been too busy to write but I haven’t ever told you all what I’m busy with. I’m too lazy to go back and look at all my previous entries, so if I repeat myself, sorry.
Back in February our department admin took a leave to take care of her dad in Florida. We had a temp in to cover some of her duties during that time and then the leave got extended and then she decided to retire. So since February I have been covering my own position as the accounting admin and covering many of her duties as the department admin. It’s been interesting.
In April the city convened the budget committee. This committee meets 5 times in evening meetings for presentations and discussion about the upcoming fiscal year budget. This is one of the department admin’s main jobs. Providing support to the budget team, making copies, setting up rooms, arranging for catering, arranging for transcription (I didn’t have to do it…yay!) and all that kind of stuff. Oh, and those 5 meetings? Yeah, they went until 9:30 at night. Then I had to clean up…
On top of the budget committee stuff (which I made sound really easy here, but is a big time sucker) we had three, count ‘em THREE people retiring in our department and one person transferring to another department on May 2nd. And guess who got elected to plan the retirement parties? Mm-hmm. Yours truly.
So I had to plan an in-house party for people here at the city as well as a more formal big to-do at the local country club. We had about 80 people come to the formal to do. That’s a lot of RSVPs to organize and money to collect.
So between party planning, budget meetings, working late, taking care of my poor husband (see Owie post for more details), working on getting the floor problem resolved (See A Post of Substance for more details) and just trying to get through the normal life stuff like dishes, bills, laundry, and all that, things have been nuts. So I hope you’ll forgive me for not really having a lot to say on my blog.
Oh! And one more thing I forgot to tell you about. I am applying for the now vacant department admin position. Since I’m doing the job anyway, I might as well get the pay and notoriety that goes along with it. It is a promotion for me and a little bit more money. Plus it is not a union job so I won’t have to fork out $62 a month for union dues. Ha!
So keep your fingers crossed. Today was the closing date for applications on the job. Hopefully I’ll hear something next week.
Oh! And another thing. I am the [edited on 5-12-08 because a fellow employee told me he has a google thingy that informs him whenever the name of the place I work comes up on a blog. So he found my blog and told me all about it on the way into the building this morning} XitX oX XreshaX Employee of the Month for May. Isn’t that nice??

Dang girl, you've been busy.
Ouch. Greg's surgery and recovery does sound extremely painful...hope he gets better soon.
You need some good news. I really hope you get that job! That would be awesome. Sounds like you are qualified for it since you are doing it anyway. Yay you!! And who knew you were such a party planner? Here I am grumbling about one 6 year old's b-day party.
