My friend Maiden posted her bucket list on her blog the other day and asked her readers to post what was on theirs. A bucket list is from the movie "The Bucket List." For those that haven't seen it (including me, because I didn't want to watch a depressing movie), the basic premise is that these two men are dying and have only 6 months to live. They each create this list of things to do before they "kick the bucket" and then live it out. Kinda like the "Live Like You Were Dying" song by Tim McGraw. Yes, Deb. It's a COUNTRY MUSIC song. I know how much you love that! Oh, look. Here's the video...
Anyway, with all the people in my life that have died in the past few months and my 20th high school reunion right around the corner I'm more aware of my mortality than ever. Throw in Greg's health problems, my inability to get and stay organized, let alone keep up with my house and desk work, and you've got one 38-year-old that is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants out of life.
So being the type that can't just come up with these kind of things on my own, I went out to Google blogs and checked up on what other people put on their list. Just a piece of advice...don't do this. You will realize that all the stuff you thought might be pretty cool to do before you died that you were going to put on your list after you got good ideas off of everyone else's was actually total and complete crap.
So then I realized that I can't even get my daily to do list done. What am I doing coming up with another list of thing that I probably won't cross off? Then I realized that was dumb and just went ahead and made the list. I'm sure I'll add to it as life goes on, but here is my Bucket List (in no particular order of importance).
1. Learn to fence.
2. Visit all 50 states, D.C. and all US territories.
3. Visit all the US National Parks.
4. See a favorite musical in New York on Broadway.
5. See a favorite musical in London on the West End.
6. Take horseback-riding lessons.
7. Scuba dive on the Great Barrier Reef.
8. Visit Europe and see whatever tickles my fancy. Museums, the Vatican, churches, idyllic picnics in the countryside of Spain...whatever it may be.
9. Take one whole summer off from work and just enjoy it like I did when I was a kid.
That's all I can think of at the moment. I'll add more later. So let's hear it...what is on your Bucket List?
