A Post of Substance

I'm sure you've been wondering when I was going to actually post something of substance here. All I've put up in the past few weeks is YouTube and fluff. Well, here is your substance.

The reason I haven't posted much is that I've been really busy. A couple of weeks ago I put a dog bed in the washer. These beds are washable and should fit in the washer fine. They are 19"x24" and rectangular. I went off and was doing some things in the kitchen when I noticed Zinger laying in a crouch in the middle of the hall staring at something. Since it is unusual for Zinger to sit still, I went over to see what the problem was and saw a pool of water spreading over the floor. The floor that my wonderful, hardworking husband had ruined his knees, back, hands, and body putting in for me.

In just a couple of minutes the water managed to run down under floor and ruin boards in the hall, bedroom, and part of the family room. The water went under the boards and in some cases under the underlayment and down to the sub-floor. We ripped boards up as fast as we could but we still had about 6 feet of ruined boards. I'd show a picture, but I am too dispirited to even take one. It's so frustrating to have the floors finally finished and then to have this happen. And it was completely my fault. I had tucked the stupid bed down in the washer, but it must have sprung back up and diverted the water stream into the overflow drain. Did you know that the overflow drain just goes down to the floor? Yeah. I can prove that it does. It's just a good thing Zinger was sitting there. Who knows how much damage would have been done before one of us noticed the pool of water? I frequently get up in the middle of the night to let the dogs out, start a load of laundry, and then go back to bed. Imagine what would have happened then.

We have had a contractor out to look at everything. Luckily we won't have to replace the Sheetrock because it didn't get very wet. Just a little bit that we were able to dry out with a fan. Greg has talked with the insurance company and they will replace the flooring for us. We are still working out the details, but since the floor is continuous from the front door all the way to the bedroom and into the closet and the flooring we used is no longer available, they may replace all the flooring on the first floor. We do have to pay a $1,000 deductible, and I don't know where we will get that, but at least we don't have to walk around on the sub-floor.

We need to have all the furniture and everything out of the first floor before the contractor can come in and pull up the boards and replace them. Those of you who have been to my house lately know how messy we are. We have a lot of work to do. We don't have a date yet that they will start work, but we hope it is sometime this week. So we spent the weekend cleaning out the garage so we can put some stuff out there. There isn't enough room for everything, so we will have to rent one of those PODS I think for the furniture. On one hand this is good because it will force us to clean (we are such pigs) but on the other hand we are under a lot of pressure to get it done. It's very stressful.

I'm hoping that when this is all over Greg will actually thank me for flooding the floor so that we can get it all replaced and completed and the house organized, but I'm not holding my breath. He's still a teensy-tiny bit pissed-as-hell at me. Well, not really at me, just that it happened. I can't blame him. He did work really, really hard to get the floor done and now it's wrecked.

So that has been the majority of what I've been up to. I'm having trouble with my computer again, which is driving me crazy. Machines must hate me because I managed to kill the strip binder machine, a printer, the copier, and a big stapler at work last week. The fax machine was NOT my fault though. I was nowhere near it! Oh, and my computer at work is being temperamental, too. And the microwave wasn't heating water on Saturday either. Hmm. What should I be learning from this?

I hope to post some pictures here for you soon. I got some great early spring pictures and a couple of Stuff on My Sophie pictures too. Well, as soon as I find the cord for downloading my camera I'll do that Who knows where that is. I'm sure the camera will have a hissy-fit on me too like all the other machines in my life.

It's a conspiracy I tell you!!!!
