Dog Show

So did you watch the Westminster Dog show? Uno the 15" Beagle was crowned Best in Show. I love his registered name, Ch K-Run's Park Me In First. I wonder what his litter mates were called?

Yay that it was a hound, boo that it wasn't a Whippet. The Whippet didn't even make it in the top four of the hound group. Well, Whippets have only won Best In Show once in the past 101 years and that was in 1964. Looks like the Fox Terriers have done well though. In 2007 here is how the AKC ranked the top 10 dogs:

Whippets came in at number 62, right before the Chow Chow and right after the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier. Interestingly enough I have seem more Chows out and about than the Wheaten Terriers. Whatever. I wish Whippets were less popular. Even though I think they are the best dog breed out there, I know they are not good dogs for everyone. It seems like when a dog gets popular it starts being more popular with those nasty backyard breeders. People, NEVER EVER EVER EVER buy a dog from a pet store and NEVER EVER EVER from a backyard breeder. Go to the pound or a reputable breeder in the breed you are interested.
