A few days ago Greg was at the dog park with the girls when a photographer came up to him and asked if she could take pictures of them. This was the result. You all need to rush out and buy your set now!
I need you photographers to chime in here about this. Is it weird to take pictures of someone's dog (with permission in a public place) and then use those pictures on merchandise that you are selling? I think it's kind of weird myself. If she gave me a set I would be totally okay with the whole thing. I don't know. What do you all think?
And I have to say that yes, I know you can see all of Carmen's ribs in that one shot. I do feed her. Really I do. She's just extra skinny right now because she's been sick off and on and she's eating this special food. But I really do feed my dogs. Honest.

No, it is not okay. Verbal permission is not enough, in my opinion. It might be different since they are dogs, but if they were human subjects, she would need signed release forms.
She is making money off photos of your dogs. She needed to let you know what she was going to do with the pictures AND she should have sent you a complementary set.
Poor taste in my opinion. But I don't think there's much you can do.

Being a photographer of whippets, when I am at a public event shooting photos I feel those are my photos to use however I wish. I would not take pictures, even after verbal permission, with the intent to make money, without at least offering a set of prints to the owners and making sure they understood what I was going to do with the photos. Carmin looks bad due her special diet - this is not something the photographer is explaining to people - others may be wanting to hunt you down or be dissing whippets forever based on one photo. Hummmm VERY poor taste on this amature's part! If you want nice pictures of your girls lets schedule some time together and shoot some!!
